Hodel, dressed in haute couture, enters a barn with purpose. Balanced on a milking stool, she desperately massages a cow’s udder; her unpracticed hands find the task difficult. When the cow’s nervous tail whips through Hodel’s eyes, she weeps; the extravagant pink bolero, the hay and excrement carpeting the barn, among other details, set off an outrageous and darkly comic performance.
